Introducing Nigeria’s FIRST EVER BOBSLED team!!

Nigeria has no snow. In fact, there’s only one place in Africa with snow (Mt Kilimanjaro in East Africa). Yet, we have a Bobsled team… and, not just that, they’re SEXY and can DANCE too!

UPDATED (November, 2017) Nigeria’s Women Bobsled team have qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the first ever Bobsled team to qualify from the African continent! And after all their fund-raising efforts, they’ve been sponsored by Under Armour and Visa.

Introducing: Seun Adigun (the Driver!), Ngozi Onwumere (the Brake Woman), and Akuoma Omeoga (the second Brake Woman!)

“I was inspired to start the Nigerian Women’s Bobsled team in hopes of being the first ever African representative, men or women, to qualify for the Winter Olympic Games in the sport of Bobsled,” says Seun Adigun. No country in Africa has never represented a Bobsled team at the Winter Olympics before.

The three inspiring women want to be ready for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Seun Adigun has experience competing for the US bobsledding team, and Ngozi and Akuoma are both former sprinters (but with no experience of bobsledding before apparently!) – see photo below:

Nigeria new Bobsled team have gone viral and been all across the US TV networks, Facebook, and even the History channel. In particular the video of them dancing in their new Nigeria uniforms:Introducing Akuoma, Seun, and Ngozi!

You can watch the History Channel’s video and interview with the women here:

But there’s one problem – they don’t have a sled. Or sled runners, tools, “ice time” to learn, winter gear, or insurance!! So, they’ve started a GoFundMe Campaign to raise $150,000 to buy all the equipment to compete, and so far they’ve raised over $15,000.

If you want to contribute to their cause, you can check it out here:

In the meantime, they’ve made their own WOODEN sled, named the ‘Maeflower’ to practice on:

And on 16 November 2017, the three Nigerian women qualified for the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang in 2018. They are the first African team to ever qualify! Below are some photos of the historic moment they qualified.

Good luck to the team at the Winter Olympics!!
